The board game «Aridnyk» by the tabletop studio boardova was released in January 2024, inspired by the Ukrainian comic of the same name published by UA Comix. The game’s story immerses players in the legends and everyday life of the Hutsul people.
Inspired by tales of Carpathian spirits, the developers created a game world where players become shepherds guiding their flocks of sheep through mountain rivers, forests, and meadows, encountering the mystical beings of the Carpathians — Aridnyk, Boh, Aley, the Wolf, and others.
Inside the box are over 100 large cards illustrated by artist Liudmyla Samus, as well as wooden miniatures of spirits and shepherds that come to life on the game board. The goal of each player is to earn victory points — represented by sheep.
In January 2025, the publishers announced the international release of «Aridnyk» on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, which helps creators gain worldwide support for their projects.
Along with the updated Ukrainian edition and a full English-language adaptation, the team revealed three standalone expansions: «Winter», «Sacred Grounds», and «Festivities». Each expansion introduces a unique gameplay experience and new mechanics that broaden the world of the game.
Players around the globe will be able to back the project and purchase the base game as well as any of the expansions.
The Kickstarter launch is scheduled for Q1 2025.
