Reframe: A Puzzle of Balance
60 m | 1-5 players | 14+ age
Here is a set of cards in front of you. One deliberate action – and the system triggers its own cycle of restructuring. Your aim is to stabilize it within a limited number of cycles. In this puzzle game, you’ll need to reframe your actions to intervene in the self-organizing system: either by competing against it or, in addition, against your opponent.

Balance is the puzzle.
Finding balance in a system that constantly changes is quite a challenge.
In Reframe, your turn consists of two phases: a conscious intervention, during which the player performs a limited number of actions (moving, flipping, or evaluating a card), and an automatic cycle that prompts the player to take actions according to the cards’ instructions.
The player’s goal is to bring all the cards into balance within a limited number of automatic cycles without triggering a new cycle of changes. From learning mode to fully immersing into the puzzle of balance.
In duel mode, players solve their own set, then switch and work with each other’s sets. The winner isn’t the one who got lucky with the initial layout, but the one whose interventions were more precise.

Reframe: A Puzzle of Balance is being developed in consultation with Neuroplay Lab, a research lab at the University of Plymouth (UK) led by psychologists Dr Gray Atherton and Dr Liam Cross.
Their research explores cognition and neurodiversity in the board games field.
